Retro 11 Origin

The original Jordan Retro 11 came out in 1995 to celebrate Michael Jordan’s return to basketball. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, it was the 11th shoe in the Jordan line and the first to include carbon fiber, patent leather, and Cordura nylon all in one.

The shoe was so successful during this initial run that it returned in 2000 as a retro shoe. While the original had both mid- and low-cut options, this retro model just came in a low-cut.

Since then, the kids' Jordan Retro 11 has been going strong with tons of upgraded styles and colorways. It remains one of Jordan’s most popular shoes and is reportedly one of MJ’s favorite releases. He wore the same pair throughout his entire 1995-1996 basketball season – even daring to don the shoes earlier than Nike had intended.
