Designed by Bruce Kilgore, the AF1 was first a shoe for pro basketball players. The slanted cut to the high-top upper gave players increased mobility but didn’t sacrifice ankle support. The herringbone traction pattern, which had been so typical of basketball shoes, was replaced with a circular outsole tread, giving players a pivot point for easier movement.
