Vans – Keeping it Authentic

Never has a company been more synonymous with the leading edge of California cool than Vans.

Soon after Paul and Jim Van Doren began selling their custom-made shoes in 1966, the first gen of SoCal skateboarders embraced the rubber-soled kicks for their reliable grip on the longboard and their easy, relaxed design. The Van Doren Rubber Company (as it was called at the time) was more than happy to listen to what its young customers had to say and began creating shoes specifically made for the up-and-coming sport of “sidewalk surfing.” Vans’ inaugural silhouette was the #44 Deck Shoe, known today as the Authentic. It remains one of the most popular skate-inspired shoes on the market.

Off the Wall

Since its founding, Vans has always been about bold style and ultimate durability. With a wide range of kicks plus a collection of streetwear and accessories, Vans has transformed the skate industry. The company took its dedication to that community even further when it adopted the famous “Off the Wall” tagline (coined by skaters riding off the walls of pools) and pegged skaters Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta to design a series of shoes specifically for skateboarding. Vans’ Era and Chukka low models featured more padding to protect riders’ feet and ankles. Vans also has sponsored music festivals and events such as the Vans US Open of Surfing, the largest action sports event in North America.

Shortly after the Off the Wall series debuted, Vans introduced the now-iconic Slip-Ons, made famous by 1980s cinematic lore and remaining one of the most popular brand of shoes, apparel, and accessories in the industry.

Vans shoes and apparel capture the essence of skate style. Classic silhouettes like the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi, and Classic Slip-on are as much at home on your board as they are on the street. Infants through grade schoolers can rock the iconic look of this classic American brand.

In the Zone in Kids’ Vans

Skateboarders are practically on a first-name basis with Vans. The iconic footwear line, launched in Anaheim in the 1960s, is known for its sporty, sturdy, ultra-casual shoes. From sneakers to slip-ons, there’s something in this mix for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and grade school kids alike. What could be better than a classic style made modern? Vans has the littles covered with comfortable shoes that are perfect for everything on their schedule, whether they’re headed to class or playing in the backyard.
