The word “huarache” comes from the Purépecha language, an indigenous language from Mexico. The English translation is “sandal.” But these are sneakers, right? Right!

Nike gave this distinct sneaker its name because the design is reminiscent of Mexican-style sandals. The overlays on the upper have a crisscross layering style that mimics the sandals’ design.
