Kids Foot Locker Shoe Size FAQs
What are Kids Shoe Sizes?
-Infant sizes are sizes 1-3. Toddler sizes are 4-10. Preschool is 10.5-3. Grade school is 10.5-3.0. From ages 9-12, children may begin to outgrow kids’ sizes and move into women’s or men’s sizes.
How does Kids Shoe Sizing Work?
-Unlike clothes sizing, your kid’s shoe size doesn’t match up with their age, unless they’re an infant. Infant shoes are listed by age in month.
-Once they size up to kid-size shoes, the sizing system switches to numbers. Sizes 3.5-10 are for toddlers. From 10.5 on are preschool & grade school sizes. When your kid moves up to 13.5, the sizing system changes again to adult sizing, so they’re back to size 1.
How Can I Measure My Kid's Shoe Size?
-Visit a Kids Foot Locker store near you & one of our store associates will measure your kid’s feet. Unable to visit a store? We’ve got you covered with our printable sizing chart so you can measure your kid’s feet from the comfort of your own home.
-For accurate sizing, print the document on an 8.5”x11” paper at 100% (full size) & follow the instructions from there.
How Often Do Kids Need New Shoes?
-How often kids need shoes depends on how fast they grow & the condition of their current pairs. While some kids grow faster than others, it’s important to know how fast they grow by age group. Consider these averages for when you need a fresh pair for your kid:
- Under 15 Months Old: .5 size increase every 2 months
- 15 Months to 2 Years Old: .5 size increase every 2-3 months
- 2-3 Years Old: .5 size increase every 3-4 months
- 3-5 Years Old: .5 size increase every 4 months
- 5-10 Years Old: Typically outgrow shoes 1-2 times a year
How Do I know if My Kid Has the Right Fit?
-Make sure to measure your kid’s feet for correct sizing. Check their comfort levels when they try on a new pair.
How Often Should I Measure My Kid’s Feet?
-Measure your kid’s feet based on how fast they grow. The faster they grow, the more you should measure their size.
What Do I Do if My Kids Are Between Sizes?
-Always go with the bigger size. That way, your kid is less likely to have cramping in either foot and won’t feel squished in their shoes.
How Can I Shop for Infant Shoes?
-Shop in between size 1-3 at Kids Foot Locker once they learn to walk on their own. Swap booties with walker shoes that have a flexible fit & structured sole. You’ll want to get pairs that have extra padding too. An infant’s foot tends to hit the ground with more force than an adult’s foot.
-They won’t need to break into their shoes, unlike bigger sizes. Consider pairs with breathable materials, including mesh, leather & microbial lining. Before they start walking, booties, baby socks & more are perfect for their feet.
